Galle

Galle is the capital of the southern province and has a colorful history. It is known for Galle Fort, the ancient fortified city founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. Galle is a very relaxed city and one of the best places to catch your breath. Moreover, Galle is all about sandy shores, fantastic music, and culture.

  • Galle National Museum – Circa-1656 The Dutch building, now a museum, has artifacts such as masks, carvings, ship equipment, and armor.

  • Galle Lighthouse: A historic lighthouse in a fort with a simple style and a nearby beach popular with swimmers.
