Jaffna

Jaffna is one of the Tamil-majority regions with a very rich cultural diversity in Sri Lanka. The culture itself is very unique and rigid. Jaffna culture includes many customs and rituals that have been passed down from generation to generation. The most prominent features of Jaffna are its religious festivals, such as Thaipongal, Tamil New Year, Deepawali, and Nallur Temple festival, etc. Jaffna has many tourist attractions in various places, such as Nainathivu Temple, Nallur Kovil, Naga Vigara, Jaffna fortress and beaches. Religion plays an important role in shaping the culture and traditions of Jaffna.

Handicrafts, woodwork, sculptures, and even food are frequently used to reflect Jaffna culture. Some people would say that Jaffna has a more conventional culture, which is influenced by the prominent religions that are prevalent in the region. The way of life of the Jaffna people is very simple and full of humility and happiness. This is one of the reasons why the people of Jaffna have a great sense of appreciating the simple things in life.

One of the main characteristics of the culture is its South Indian influence, because it is located near Tamil Nadu, India. In the ancient period, Jaffna people often traveled to South India by boat for trade and religious purposes.
