St.Clair’s Waterfall
The St. Clair’s Waterfall, which flows down in two sections next to the major road from Avissawella to Nuwara-Eliya, attracts frequent bathers since it is quite simple to access by pathways that descend amid green tea bushes. It is visible from the Main Line rail track near Talawakelle and was given the name of a British colonist. Being one of Sri Lanka’s widest waterfalls, St. Clair’s Falls is referred to as the “Little Niagara of Sri Lanka.” It is 80 meters high and located 3 kilometers west of Talawakele on the Hatton-Nuwara Eliya route. This waterfall is one of the six created by the Kotmaleoya, a tributary of the Mahaweli river, as a result of the Kotmale Hydropower Project.
